Voor het monteren van Astera Titan Tubes aan Caligri Balloons heb ik een houder ontworpen die precies doet wat ik nodig had: stabiel, makkelijk te bevestigen en geschikt voor op set. Het ontwerp heb ik volledig zelf gemaakt in een 3D-programma, en daarna geprint met mijn Bambu Lab A1 Mini. Zoals dat vaak gaat, was het niet in één keer raak—er zijn aardig wat iteraties en kleine innovaties aan voorafgegaan voordat ik echt tevreden was met het eindresultaat.

De klem bestaat uit drie losse onderdelen (zoals je boven in de afbeelding ziet), die met M5-schroeven aan elkaar worden bevestigd. Voor stevige en herbruikbare schroefverbindingen maak ik gebruik van heated inserts, zodat de onderdelen netjes en stevig aan elkaar geschroefd kunnen worden. In het ontwerp zit ook een ingebouwde receiver voor een Super Clamp spigot, waardoor je flexibel bent in hoe je de setup wilt riggen.

Tijdens gebruik op set kwam Justin van Dijk met het idee om een hendel toe te voegen, zodat je de lamp makkelijker kunt verstellen als hij al op een statief zit. Die toevoeging bleek goud waard en zit inmiddels standaard in het ontwerp. Aan de zijkant zit nu een simpele, maar effectieve handgreep waarmee je snel en precies kunt positioneren.

De houder is al op een paar sets in gebruik, dus het is nu afwachten of ze ook op de lange termijn standhouden—het blijft natuurlijk PLA. Maar voor nu lijkt het erop dat ze zich prima redden in het veld.

To mount Astera Titan Tubes onto Caligri Balloons, I designed a custom holder that does exactly what I needed: stable, easy to mount, and practical for on-set use. I created the entire design myself using a 3D modeling program and printed it on my Bambu Lab A1 Mini. Like most DIY projects, it didn’t come together perfectly on the first try—several iterations and small innovations were needed before I landed on a version I was happy with.

The clamp is made up of three separate components (as shown in the image above), which are assembled using M5 screws. I used heated inserts to create strong and reusable threads for connecting the parts together securely. The design also features a built-in receiver for a Super Clamp spigot, giving you flexibility in how you rig your setup.

While using the clamp on set, Justin van Dijk suggested adding a handle so it would be easier to adjust the light when mounted on a stand. That idea turned out to be a real game changer, and the handle is now a standard part of the design. It gives you precise control for positioning the light exactly where you want it.

A few of these clamps are already being used on set, so now it's a matter of seeing how they hold up over time—after all, it's still just PLA. But so far, they seem to be doing the job just fine.
