Lighting Plot
A lighting plot is a detailed visual plan used in theater, film, or live events to map out the placement, type, and direction of lighting instruments. It serves as a blueprint for the lighting designer and technical team, ensuring that all lights are positioned and focused correctly to create the desired effects.
Typically, a lighting plot includes a top-down view of the stage or performance area, with symbols representing different lighting fixtures. It may also note the intensity, color gels, gobos (patterned filters), and angles for each light. Alongside the plot, a cue sheet often details when and how lights should change during the production.
By carefully planning a lighting plot, designers can shape the atmosphere, highlight key moments, and guide the audience’s focus effectively. It’s an essential tool for seamless coordination between artistic vision and technical execution.
